Shenandoah Conservatory is pleased to accept applications and nominations for a highly professional managing director with extensive experience within academic settings to oversee all front of house operations and further increase the profile and patronage of the approximately 110 ticketed Music, Theatre, and Dance events that make up the performance calendar at Shenandoah Conservatory. This is a 12-month staff position offering excellent employee benefits.
About Shenandoah Conservatory: Shenandoah Conservatory presents over 110 ticketed events per year as part of a busy season of Music, Dance, and Theatre performances. With a range of performance venues including a main stage and black box theatre, a concert hall and recital hall, and with exceptional faculty and students, the Conservatory is poised to make a still larger impact on the beautiful community of Winchester and the northern Shenandoah Valley. Shenandoah Conservatory currently serves 711 students enrolled in Music, Dance, Theatre, Arts Management, and related degree areas.
About the Position: A highly skilled professional, with at least 7 or more years experience as Managing Director within an academic setting to step into this new position (and a vibrant season of over 110 ticketed events across Music, Dance, and Theatre) and successfully accomplish the following: provide oversight of major performance venues; successfully market and promote performance seasons and series and successfully build a patron base for same; successfully oversee the development of skilled front-of-house and box office staff; successfully manage production budgets as appropriate; successfully oversee the integration of box office functionality with marketing strategies; and appropriately track and budget expenditures for all related work. Qualifications: The ideal candidate will possess an extensive managing director background, with at least 7 or more years experience as Managing Director within an academic setting, combined with excellent interpersonal skills, strong organizational abilities, excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to anticipate the needs of multiple constituents. The work is often highly sensitive and requires diplomacy and tact, professionalism, patience and commitment. This position requires a self-starter whose aesthetic is in concert with the arts and who has an appetite for large institutions and a gift for communicating across departmental and artistic lines. This position provides a unique opportunity to combine strong management and leadership to oversee major performance venues with creativity and an artistic approach to gain business success. Degree is required. Master in Fine Arts or related field is preferred.
