Shenandoah University seeks a skilled individual to serve as Assistant Technical Director/Scene Shop Supervisor for a 12 month benefited staff appointment.
About the position: The ATD will report to the Technical Director and assist to provide a consistent presence in the shop to help supervise students and ensure shop safety, complete safety training and maintain a safe working environment in the Scene Shop and Theatres. The successful candidate will supervise and assist students and stage crew members to complete production assignments in properties and live sound reinforcement; assist in coordination of schedule to meet deadlines will be required. Qualifications:
• The successful applicant will have a MFA or BFA in Technical Theatre or equivalent experience in professional and academic settings.
• This individual must have a working knowledge of shop and tool safety, scenery construction techniques, stage rigging, theatrical sound reinforcement, and stage properties.
• Must be Red Cross certified with first responder training. Teaching opportunities within the area of expertise may be available to the appropriate candidate.
• This hands-on managerial position requires physical dexterity and manual coordination. Must occasionally be able to move and lift up to 50 pounds. Physical requirements may be strenuous at times and will require ability to reach, bend, lift and pull to maneuver scenery during construction.
• A valid drive license and a good driving record will be necessary.
• Work hours are typical to the theatre industry and based around performances to include some weekends and nights.
