The Technical Services Manager will be responsible for technical support campus-wide for non-instructional programs. This full-time, 12-month, professional staff member will work a flexible schedule and extended hours during peak periods, as determined by the schedule of campus events. The Technical Services Manager reports to the Director of Campus Activities, supervises the Technical Services Assistant and works in collaboration with other Campus Activities staff members. Additional responsibilities include serving as on-site technical support and primary contact for all Artist Series events, major concerts/performances and other events with complex technical needs; serving as on-site supervisor for an event in Trax (student social space) at least two times per semester; maintaining sound and lighting systems and suppling inventory for Weber Chapel Auditorium, Degenstein Theater, Stretansky Concert Hall and Trax; providing campus-wide coordination of audio-visual technical requirements and lighting support for non-instructional programs; hiring, training and supervising student technical crew, and participating in on-going student staff instruction and development; assisting in technical training for Conference Assistants, Campus Center Building Managers, and Operations Crew; working closely with the University Scheduler to ensure proper staffing and support for university events and activities; informing the Director of Public Safety and the Director of Facilities Management about safety issues within performance venues; working cooperatively with the Director of Facilities Management to consider technical support needs in construction and renovation projects; preparing an annual technical manager account budget and monitoring account activity throughout the fiscal year. The position requires physical mobility, climbing into fly space over stage and auditorium; moving staging, lighting and sound equipment; climbing stairs and ladders; lighting and sound design responsibilities require sight and auditory acuity per professional standards. Bachelor degree required, preferably in a related field. Technical proficiency with sound and lighting equipment, experience and knowledge of best practices in theatrical rigging systems, experience in interpretation and implementation of lighting and stage plots, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated organizational skills with attention to detail are also required.
